Musabaqah Tahfiz Al-Amin 2007 (MUTA07) was held on January 20, 2007 (Muharram 1, 1428) from 8am to 2pm at the Lecture Theatre 1, Masjid Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, International Islamic University Malaysia. Twenty eight participants, the finalists, were vying for the top three spots for each category in the musabaqah.

Participants of the MUTA07 were divided into three categories: First Category 10 juzu’ (1-7, 28-30); Second Category 6 juzu’ (1-3, 28-30); and Third Category 3 juzu’ (28-30). Each category was further divided into male (banin) and female (banat) participants. Participants for the First and Second Categories were presented with four questions and for the Third Category, three questions. They were given 1.5 minutes to answer each question. They were assessed and given marks based on Fasohah (55%), Makhraj (20%), Tajwid (20%), and Tarannum (5%).

All the students selected to be in the MUTA07 turned up; they came on time and were very well behaved throughout the event. We are proud of them and salute their spirits.

There was however a slight incidence. Just before the event was to start, two banin participants went missing. Cikgu Norma and Ustazah Naim went looking for them. What transpired after that, we have no idea. But the two banin were back at the participants’ rows in time for their turn.

The VIP for the event were Tn Hj Wan Mohamad, Vice Chairman of the Pusat Pendidikan Al-Amin Berhad, Tn Hj Mohd Hasni, Principal of Sek Men Al-Amin, Ir Indera Luthfi, President of the PIBG, and Tn Hj Mohamed Isa, President of the Kelab Kelas Tahfiz SMIAAG/ATACE. The speeches were given by Tn Hj Isa, Tn Hj Hasni, and the Ir Indera. Ir Indera also officiated the opening of the MUTA07 with the cutting of a ribbon holding a rolled up bunting.

The Master of Ceremony for the event was Pn Junaidah; she doubled up as the marks recorder. She recorded and counted marks of the participants and as winners of each category were determined, she prepared and printed the winners’ certificates. With the aid of her two computers, an HP laser printer, her son Azhari as the runner collecting marking sheets from the judges, and Cikgu Roslina providing her input on the goings on, she did an excellent job at moderating the event and controlling the flow.

MUTA07 started and ended with beautiful recitations of supplication by Ustaz Abdullahi Bolajoko, our Tahfiz Instructor.

Parents’ attendance was good although in the morning there were only a few lonely figures. However, Alhamdullillah, towards the end of the event, the lecture theatre was filling up rather nicely.
